Inject Creativity Live - 17/02/2021

Another wonderful example of bits of my daily life being reflected in the topics and knowledge shares during Inject Creativity Live! Tim, Jerry and I were joined by Jason Lane, who shared a demo of how Spark can be used to brighten and engage the user/student experience within Microsoft OneNote and Teams, and Dan Haesler who spoke passionately and wonderfully about the importance of students having a positive sense of belonging. His five minute gem is a must watch for educators and parents alike.

We had a couple of new faces join us for the Fireside after the livestream, which was brilliant to see, as well as the shared Spark creations from some of our Ed colleagues.

Further details about what they covered in our livestream (right) are available via my Spark page created for tonight (below).
Find out more about Dan and his work at danhaesler.com/

If you want to give feedback on tonight, you can do this via the buttons in the Spark Page below.

Create. Share. Learn... LIVE! 11th Feb 2021

Hello friends!

So I think my first ever solo livestream went well - no technical difficulties, no hiccups... and was only 16 and a bit minutes long (if you include the intro and outro)!

My ever supportive partner in crime watched it and said that I explained things really clearly, and he feels confident that he could jump in and use the app based solely on my video, so ACHIEVEMENT = UNLOCKED!

I am pondering what I should do for my next livestream... am thinking of doing a demo, compare, contrast and follow-me of how I created my show intro and outro in two different apps (for all skill levels):
  • Adobe Spark Video (for entry-level) and
  • Adobe Premiere Rush (for intermediate-level).

Thinking a good theme for the next show would be a positive word/image association project.
Task:
  1. Choose three words that speak to you (can be for work or personal - Work = a safety share, Personal = a family member's birthday)
  2. Decide on three videos that reflect those words (videos can be literal or abstract and made yourself or royalty-free from Pixabay/another service)
  3. Use those videos to create a project in Spark, and/or Rush, using the each video as a background for the chosen word
  4. Choose music from inside the app (there is a great built-in selection for both)
  5. Tweak the timing of the video to match it up to the music and make it 'punchy'.
  6. Export the finished product and share!

What would really interest me is to see what people's experience is with using Adobe Spark vs Adobe Rush. Rush is available to try for free and export a couple of videos to see how you like it before you commit, and I would be really, really interested to see what people think... and how easy they find each product to use!

What do you think? Is this a good idea for my next livestream? Should I do them once a month? Once a fortnight? Leave a comment below, or 'at' me on Twitter @ErinRaethke.

We're baaacccckkkkkk.... two weeks earlier than we thought!

This week was our opportunity to test out the new format for Inject Creativity Live in 2021, with a longer livestream and non-recorded 'fireside' chat. With so many things going on in the world of creative tech and Adobe, it was bound to happen that we would run a little overtime, with part 2 of my Adobe Spark Post (with video frames in iOS) needing to be rescheduled to a later date.

Tim, Jerry and I were joined by Clara Galan who gave a great update on what is coming up in the world of the Adobe Creative Educator program for Level 1 and 2, as well as collaborative projects and challenges that are available via the social networks used to connect educators and creatives from across the globe.

I then completed Part 1 of a live demo and Spark Challenge suggestion, showing off the new screen layout of Adobe Spark web and what can be achieved with a theme in mind... my suggestion was 'Expectation vs. Reality'. I had a couple of prior examples, then I:
  • walked through how I made one from scratch
  • no template required, just the use of design thinking, and
  • discussed that by considering what you want to say and where you want to say it. this informs how elements within the image can be used to inspire your design choices from what is on offer in Adobe Spark.
Adobe Spark web is available for all current and future users, so I did this demo first. This meant that I ran out of time to show what is currently available in the iOS version of Spark... the use of frames to embed a video into a Spark Post project.

This demo I am going to do in a livestream on Thursday 11th February at 6pm AEST/7pm AEDT. It'll be the first in a Create/Share/Learn livestream series I have planned for my YouTube channel, where I spend a bit of time exploring what is possible with different tech, featuring programs like Adobe Spark and Premiere Rush, to other apps and services I enjoy and use to build resources for work and play.

I'll be putting up a new post with the link to the recording then, and will pop a reminder in my socials prior to going live. Hopefully I'll see you there! :)
And about my demo... I was flattered and blown away by the Adobe Spark shares that people submitted at our fireside chat with my suggested theme 'Expectation vs. Reality'. A lot of them had stories to go with them too, from tales of collaborative PD pages, to positive spins on re-purposing laser cutters to make maths fun, to celebrations of the return of our show!

A big thank you to everyone who had a go... including those who decided not to share their link on the night. If you did create something but didn't feel up to sharing it on the night, that is cool - there is always next time, and our group of ed and tech professionals are a wonderful and supportive bunch :)

    The Author

My day job includes designing, developing, writing, copy editing, creating and delivering training resources for staff and students (including video capture/editing and voice over/other post-production work for multi-modal resources). In my spare time, I like to take pretty pictures.
