Inject Creativity Live with Tim Kitchen - Wednesday 24th June, 2020

Another wonderful session was had by all at the Inject Creativity Live Chat show, and the extended hour long Deeper Dive. Tonight we had two presenters - Joel Aarons and MJ Kaatz. We had a fabulous conversation around creativity, and some really great points were raised about the value of experimentation and teaching students that failure is a part of the learning process, and not a negative part! MJ gave some examples of his own learning experiences in breaking things to learn how to fix them, and Joel detailed how he shows his students some of the ways he has made mistakes in the past so that they can benefit from his experience!

Joel is a STEM & Media Arts Specialist at Camberwell South Primary School, with a love of all things creative and design, who fosters creativity through observation and experimentation. Joel joined us tonight during the Deeper Dive to demonstrate

MJ is the Head of eLearning at Forest Lake State High School. He is a qualified Librarian, and is passionate about using the tools available in Adobe Acrobat in lots of applications, including protecting student details, reformatting documents, and converting files into other types.

The Spark Challenge tonight was to make a flyer or poster in Adobe Post, showing two things you have learned: below is my contribution, and we got some great entries!

View the livestream recording from YouTube at the top of this post :)

Such a great night - hope you can join us next week, when I will be presenting how to use Adobe Spark as a self-introduction tool for yourself - easily applicable for use when embedding in Learning Management Systems (LMS). Cheers!

An unexpected development - I was approached by Tim Kitchen to co-host the Inject Creativity Live Chat Show, and also join him during his 'Deep Dives'. Excited but nervous, I joined him tonight for the first time, jumping in feet first with the following fabulous guest presenters:
  • Lauren Sayer - ACL & Director of Digital Learning at Haileybury College.
  • Paul McClean - Education Consultant and Director of Rare Innovation in New Zealand.

These are two incredibly passionate educational professionals from the Asia Pacific region were an inspiration to speak with. Their views on creative and flexible solutions to diversifying learning and teaching to add value to student outcomes (both personally and economically) were thought-provoking - we could have talked well over the time allowed!

Inject Creativity Live with Tim Kitchen - Wednesday 10th June, 2020

In tonight's session, Tim was joined by:
  • Brett Kent (AEL) from the NSW Department of Education T4L Team
  • Steven Kolber ACL  English, History, EAL Teacher at Brunswick Secondary College in Melboure & Executive Secretary at Teachers Across Borders (TAB) Australia
During this session, the Spark Challenge was to create a video showcasing a couple of new things you have learned during the session.

Brett covered how he utilises Adobe Premiere Elements to create videos with his students. The thing I found the most interesting in his live demonstration was how clearly he explained, described and demonstrated how to negotiate the menus to find features such as a green screen effect.

Steven then joined us with a presentation based on Pecha Kucha 20x20; a simple Japanese methodology for presentation where you show 20 images, speaking to each for 20 seconds only.

This was another really enjoyable session, where I took time to appreciate the different styles and approaches of the Educators who share in the Adobe Education Community and Inject Creativity Live. My own presentation is on the 1st July 2020, so I have a lot to think about and prepare - especially if I want to stick to my 20 minute timeslot.

My Spark Video submission can be viewed below - this particular submission was created in 30 minutes. While I was enjoying the presentations, I used my video to create some notes for future reference.

Note: This video was created using Adobe Spark, and the audio has a few issues; I completed no post-production, so the levelling and audio quality isn't where I would normally like it. Still, not bad for 30 minutes.

Also, you can hear my dog chewing on a toy in the background ;)

INJECT CREATIVITY LIVE WITH TIM KITCHEN – WEDNESDAY 3RD JUNE, 2020

The guest presenters this evening were Dr Bronwen Wade-Leeuwen from Macquarie University & Rashan Senanayake from Inspired Group.

Each session Tim creates a 'challenge' for participants - tonight it was to create a Spark Post with the cloud-based Adobe Spark tools (https://spark.adobe.com/) that represented something we learned from one of the speakers

I really found myself connecting with Rashan's presentation - I work to connect with staff who work in the education sector, and guide them towards using the creative digital tools at their disposal to build really great resources and learning outcomes. Rashan's work with Inspired Group does that as their core business. I also really connected with the aesthetic of his presentation and prepared slides. It was clean, minimal, and easy to read and follow.

The Spark Post I created in session using only Spark's available tools, and a few well-timed screenshots. This is created live as the guest is presenting, so my creation took about 15 minutes from not existing at all to being published online.

Usually I make a Spark Page to go along with each session as well as the challenge set by Tim, but tonight was the exception.

    The Author

My day job includes designing, developing, writing, copy editing, creating and delivering training resources for staff and students (including video capture/editing and voice over/other post-production work for multi-modal resources). In my spare time, I like to take pretty pictures.
