In tonight's episode of Inject Creativity Live, Tim, Jerry and I were joined by Adobe Education Leader Emeritus Chris Betcher from Sydney, and Education Thought Leader Paul McClean from New Zealand.

Our guest speakers were, as always, informative and inspirational. I especially enjoyed Chris' presentation as it focused on one of my loves - storytelling through videomaking, with a focus on the cinematic approach and how you can tell better stories by employing the principles of cinematography.

Paul presented a 5 minute gem on his approach to setting up Digital Mastery in schools.

Chris kindly agreed to share the link to his slide deck from his presentation, which clearly breaks down the approaches you (and your students) can use to create not just more visual interest within a video production, but how the use of those shots can create a deeper sense of time, place and empathy.

If you want to watch Chris in action, his presentation starts from timestamp 21:12 in the video above. His slide deck is:

  • linked in my Spark Page summary along with other helpful links and notes from tonight, and

Tonight I learned that no matter how much time I spend thinking about creating videos and software demonstrations, it is so incredibly valuable to think purposefully and fully about how elements can enhance or hinder the story you are trying to tell - even if the content is quite dry.

Paul's presentation focus was, as always, dedicated to his passion in building real-world learning and talent development opportunities for students, and to move away from the standardised testing approach towards learning and student development in education. He is working quite closely with a school at the moment, and also shared with us a success story of one student from a previous school he worked with. See Paul's presentation from timestamp 50:08 above.

A couple of great shares during the fireside chat from some of our attendees as well - I have linked these spontaneous creative examples here (right).

    The Author

My day job includes designing, developing, writing, copy editing, creating and delivering training resources for staff and students (including video capture/editing and voice over/other post-production work for multi-modal resources). In my spare time, I like to take pretty pictures.
