Tonight was a wonderful return to working with my favourite EdTech professionals for the Inject Creativity Live Chat Show and Deeper Dives. I do believe I giggled like a delighted child when Tim surprised me with a live happy birthday song, complete with live guitar playing! It is so good to be back - I feel the love.
We were joined this evening by Dom Traynor from Adobe's Europe branch, and Jason Lane from Villanova College here in Brisbane. I think I enjoyed most tonight the different kinds of interactions that Adobe Spark has with other applications - featured was the Wakelet x Adobe collaboration for the Writing For Change Challenge, and the ways you can use and embed Adobe Spark assets into Microsoft OneNote. The versatility of application of these products has limitless engagement opportunities for students and educators alike. Click here to access the Deeper-dive event recording! Tonight's Inject Creativity Live Chat-Show and Deeper Dive event was another fun, thought provoking evening, filled with great conversation about how education and personal fulfilment are not mutually exclusive, and how new tools can give students the opportunity to express themselves in a wide variety of ways. Tim, Jerry and I were joined by Kesh Chinia from Queensland and Peter Hutton from Victoria. If you missed the live Chat Show, the recording is embedded below.
The conversation and demonstrations were so great that we ran a bit overtime tonight, which was well worth it (plus I had my dinner early ;) !). If you are interested in anything that was covered tonight, my Adobe Spark Summary page from this evening is below:
Tonight's Deeper Dive with Peter resonated with me powerfully, particularly with some of the comments placed in the chat around attitudes towards different kinds of learning, the prioritisation of a specific kind of numeracy, and the detrimental results it can have on a student and their learning experiences.
Kesh's presentation was delightful in showing that his 'assessment' with his students not only enabled them to engage with his area of expertise, but also allowed the flexibility for students to create tools relating to their own interests (or study for 'other' subjects) while creating solutions for their needs and focus with the wonderful technical tool of Adobe XD. Students could expand their skills and understanding in Graphic and app design while simultaneously create content that was meaningful to them, and I really appreciate that application. It inspired me.
This week has been a busy one for me. Not only am I catching up on reading for my studies, working through the feedback from my delivery last fortnight, and making up time from a day off, I also FINALLY got my act together and completed the Creativity for All course from the Adobe Education Exchange, earning my official badge for Level 1!
Some really inspirational and creative educators are out there. I so enjoyed looking through the submissions, and seeing all the different ways people approached the same task.
This evening Tim, Jerry and I were joined by Tanya Moran from Victoria and Mark Christie from the Northern Territory. Tanya shared with us her timely work upgrading resources and licensing that only slightly preceded the COVID-19 lockdowns, and Mark shared the rescoping of the Northern Territory holiday to celebrate creativity in schools from across his state. See below for the livestream from our Chat Show.
See below my linked Adobe Spark Page summary for tonight's broadcast. It contains notes for both Tanya and Mark's presentations, as well as a range of links to Character Animator resources that Mark has curated from creative educators across this space.
I was moved to tears by one of the submissions that won in the Territory Day presentation - links to the site are below.
I am going to leave you with a couple of things.
First, my submission for my Creativity for All course is below. If you haven't already, sign up - it is free to join, and my submission was created using Adobe Spark Post - accessible to anyone, for free... all you need is an Adobe ID (also free!). If you haven't had enough of me after that, check out my teasers on Twitter for Inject Creativity Live... created in Spark!

Joining Tim, Jerry and me tonight was Mike Turner and Paul McClean. Mike and Paul both shared their skills and thoughts in how creativity can be shared in the classroom, but they did this in very different ways.
Tonight I really felt I learned a lot during Mike's presentation. Using InDesign to a fuller potential is a gap in my skills I am very aware of, and I was inspired to try more. I just have to balance out experimenting with something new with keeping up with what is already on my plate first. Can't use Adobe as an excuse to procrastinate! To check out the Adobe Spark page I created during this session, click below. :)
Tim and I are usually joined by Jerry Wong for our Inject Creativity Chat Show and Deeper Dive, but tonight our special guest moderator was Luke Cathcart from Adobe. He did a fabulous job and his work was much appreciated.
Tonight's Inject Creativity Live was focused on creativity through video production, and we had some wonderful guest presenters sharing both practical projects for the classroom and community projects. Joel Aarons has been an Adobe Education Leader for many years. He is a very talented and highlight respected STEM & Media Arts Teacher in Melbourne at Camberwell South Primary. Jamie van Leeuwen also lives in Melbourne but grew up in Sydney. He is a film maker and a Social Media Lead at ESPN. His connection to our Adobe Education community is as the son of Adobe Education Leader Dr Bronwen Wade van Leeuwen from Macquarie University - I shall have to thank her for introducing him into our orbit.
When we launched into the Deeper Dive, our topics triggered a fascinating discussion on the kinds of video editing software out there. Most of the debate was around the best mobile apps out there for creative experiences - the competing space that Adobe Spark Video, Adobe Premiere Rush and iMovie live in. Alas, we didn't have time to expand on it, but people expressing their preferences (and how they used them) was really interesting!
Joel Aarons presented to us first. He has been an Adobe Education Leader for five years. Joel is like me in that he has learned through tinkering with Adobe to breathe life into his projects. This naturally evolved into his use of Adobe tools in teaching photography, videography, animation and graphic design. His K-2 students use Adobe apps on tablets, and the Year 3-6 students use the Creative Cloud apps like Premiere Rush. Two years ago, he published an eBook containing lessons and reflections in Media Arts (which can be purchased here: https://mediaartsconfessions.wordpress.com/about/). Links to this and his other work and projects are in the embedded Spark summary page I created for tonight (below). Jamie van Leeuwen has taken his life experience from his time at University in Canberra and transformed his self-taught video production skills into a remarkable opportunity at ESPN. As a sports and tech fan, his current role is an ideal cross-section of his interests. He felt inspired by his observations at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak to start working on the collaborative #AustraliaLockedDown project, which will be submitted to the National Film and Sound Archive (https://www.australialockeddown.com/). I particularly was blown away with the storytelling in his own video, and how profound the pairing of the poem and clips was in such a short amount of time. Some of the submissions to his project so far are really interesting, and can be viewed here: https://www.australialockeddown.com/creative.
Another fab night with Tim Kitchen and Jerry Wong. Tonight we were joined by Adrian Bruch (SAE Creative Institute, Melbourne) and Paul McLean (from Rare Innovations in Auckland). We are also now broadcasting live on LinkedIn, as well as on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Check out Tim's page for more information.
Adrian's informative session on using the keyboard in tandem with the Adobe pen tool was extremely inspiring to me as a novice in Illustrator and with the pen tool in general.
Paul's perspective on education and analysing practice into creative action was informative and involved. For this evening, I created a basic summary page, which included links and information relating to (or provided by) Adrian and Paul during their presentations. See below! Take care, and see you in the next session! Erin.
Tonight was a night for Queensland women in EdTech, with guest presenter Michelle Roberts from TAFE Queensland joining Tim, Jerry and I during the live Chat Show. She shared with us the work she has done since 2015 to influence and enhance Educational staff skills in the Educator Capability area.
During the Deeper Dive, she shared an Adobe Spark page with some interesting statistics relating to staff engagement in training that has been offered, as well as some quotes from feedback received.
Michelle also talked us through a video she created, and her aspirations for the future with tech adoption in TAFE Queensland. Next, I presented Part 1 of my "Enhance Spark Projects with Premiere Rush" series. This covered adjusting an audio volume difference between clips in a project downloaded from Spark, and opened in Adobe Premiere Rush. Below you will find the presentation I created to share with the participants. As I complete the demo videos, I will add links to them when they are posted in this Spark page (and to this blog!). Next week, on 12th August, we are joined by Adrian Bruch & Paul McClean. I hope you can join us! Find out more on Tim Kitchen's blog here. Have a great week, and take care! Erin.
Another fantastic session, where Tim, Jerry Wong and I were joined by Max Schleser from Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia.
Max is an experienced lecturer, researcher and author, who joined us to discuss using mobile devices to create video on the go. He expanded on this even more during the Deeper Dive event, completing two separate demonstrations for participants, one in end-to-end video creation in Premiere Rush on mobile, the next demonstrating some of the sophisticated ways he can manipulate 360 degree footage in Premiere Pro.
During this session I created an Adobe Spark Page to summarise what was covered tonight - this includes some useful links, screenshots from Max's presentation and more information about Max, his projects, his Behance profile and his published books.
This fabulous session with Tim Kitchen and Jerry Wong from Adobe included the talented Kev Lavery from TAFE Queensland. During our Inject Creativity session, we discussed his background in teaching and his current work with TAFE Queensland, as well as his work amongst the greater Adobe Educators Community.
Once in the Deeper Dive session in BlueJeans, Kev shared with us his approach to creativity through using the Restriction Method - placing deliberate limitations as a strategy to enhance, trigger and channel learning and creativity. Rather than stifling creativity, it provides a leaping off point for inventiveness.
Below you will find my Adobe Spark Page summary of tonight, including some links that Kev shared with us to help spark some creativity!
Another fantastic session was had with Tim Kitchen and Jerry Wong during the Adobe Inject Creativity Live Chat Show and Deeper Dive via BlueJeans.
The Spark Challenge tonight was ambitious - to create a Spark Video based on:
We did have one submission from the dilligent Sally Warrilow, who did a great job of working these elements in! Link to her work is here. During tonight's sessions, we were joined by Dr Karen Sutherland from the University of the Sunshine Coast. Her area of expertise is social media, and she shared with us some of the stories of how she helps her students get relevant, timely, real world experience while developing their personal awareness of how social media can be used... as well as the impactful way it can influence their job prospects with potential employers! She included the links to some infographics about how employers view the social media presence of prospective employees, and how that influences their decisions about hiring. Karen also shared with us some images from her calendar, taken at her local beach with her phone - they were truly stunning. I delivered a little more of my Adobe Spark Video presentation tonight as well - I had about 7-10 minutes to cover and discuss the ways that Adobe Spark projects can be embedded, not just in eLearning platforms, but also how the projects that we create during the Spark Challenges set for Inject Creativity Live can be used as a part of our professional portfolios and blogs. I also discussed a tool I use, Squirrels Reflector, and how that can be utilised to create captures of the dynamic use of apps and browser activity on a mobile device (iPhone or iPad). These resources are available below - if we have time in another session, I may cover the graduation of Spark Video projects into Adobe Premiere Rush, with a focus on sound 'polishing' to get a better final product.
